Not all high security cylinders are created the same!
There are several Standards that cylinders can be tested and approved to. Probably the hardest Standard to achieve is Sold Secure‘s SS312 Diamond Standard.
Unlike the alternative TS007 Standard to pass SS312 Diamond the cylinder is tested on its own without any handles or cylinder protection. This means the cylinder has to withstand the sustained assault exposed to all likely methods of attack including snapping, bumping and drilling.
You may have heard about cylinder snapping (use this link if not!) – it’s become a huge problem for manufacturers to protect their products against it. Now we have to say that it is not a new attack; the euro profile cylinder was invented in the 1920s and the first patent to protect a cylinder was only a few years later. But that didn’t matter here in the UK as we didn’t use that style of cylinder much. Until, that is, UPVC doors became popular and they were fitted with euro cylinders by the continental manufacturers!
To meet Sold Secure SS312 Diamond Standard is so hard that there only a few manufacturers that have achieved it – unlike TS007 3* which tells you something, we’re sure! All the manufacturers who meet the test have to have snap protection that includes a locking cam to prevent it being turned and the door unlocked in the event of the front of the cylinder being broken off
All our high security cylinders are approved to Sold Secure Diamond, as well as TS007 3* and are British Standard Kitemarked for your peace of mind
You’ll need to know what size to order so have a look at this link if you’re not sure how to measure the cylinders – and don’t forget to note which is the external measurement
